Job Description:

As part of the MGS Group of Companies, MGS Antioch Division is looking for a Process Engineer/Project Manager located in Antioch, IL.  The Process Engineer/Project Manager performs sampling and qualification of new/transferred molds using the SIMS workbook within timelines and per customer/internal requirements.  Evaluates processing on current production jobs and creates plans for improvement as well as provides training.  Manages customer programs and correspondence within established timelines and budget. 

 

Below are the essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform sampling of new tools and develop molding process utilizing the SIMS Workbook.
  • Perform tool qualifications and prepare/document required reports.
  • Conduct tests such as process window studies and design of experiments of plastic injection molding processes to investigate proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
  • Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in process, product, or test method.
  • Analyze indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specification.
  • Devises and recommends new or modified components of plastic injection molding machinery.
  • Develop/document molding processes and train fellow employees in those processes.  Provide mentoring to less experienced Mold Technicians and Process Engineers.
  • Train and instruct Supervisors, Mold Technicians, and Set-up Technicians in the proper use of new equipment (machines, robots, etc.).
  • Read engineering drawings and use necessary measuring devices.
  • Review necessary forms for completion and accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot set-ups, molding processes, and equipment when necessary.
  • Participates in Design Reviews for new molds and makes recommendations to improve mold function, part quality, and ease of molding while meeting customer requirements for long term sustainable production.
  • Coordinates all aspects of a customer’s project including tool builds, qualification, and production as well as transfer of tool to the manufacturing location.
  • Lead project team/s and facilitate the communication and interaction amongst functional representatives. Investigates and resolves engineering problems utilizing available resources in all aspects of the project, including tooling, processing, part qualification, cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, sales, quoting, billing, quality control, product design, improvement recommendations, and general project organization and management.
  • Provides top level customer service, defines customer requirements, resolve all Project issues, and use as a basis to secure current and future Projects for the company.
  • Track project against its schedule, budget and phase review objectives, and communicates these to management on a regular basis ensuring the product meets or exceeds the company’s quality standard.  Develops and implements recovery plans for off-schedule and unanticipated events. Provides recommendations for new processes and leads in the effort to improve existing processes, where needed, in order to improve quality or on-time delivery.
  • Provides quotations to customers for mold repairs, mold qualifications, spare parts, etc.
  • Provides input for sourcing new equipment based on project/plant needs, and solicits quotations from equipment suppliers.
  • Observe and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties as assigned. 

Experience and Skills:

A qualified candidate would fulfill these requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Plastics Engineering or related field
  • 5-7 years of previous experience in injection molding industry.
  • Possesses a good working knowledge of injection molding processing and troubleshooting.
  • Has good mechanical skills.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills.
